Habitat Restoration and Enhancement
The weather, natural disasters, people and time
all change the landscape. Sometimes wildlife can adapt, but changes
affect food supplies, cut off migration routes or diminish protective
cover, wildlife often needs help. The Wild Elk Federation's habitat
restoration projects ensure wildlife have the essential of habitat-available
food, shelter and space.
Re-vegetation and forage enhancement, noxious weed
control and prescribed burns help rejuvenate degenerated habitats. Assisting
forest harvesters in the design of "wildlife friendly" harvesting
plans and developing planned grazing systems with participating ranchers
have positive impacts on habitat quality. While improving and increasing
the habitat base for elk, enhancement projects also benefit other wildlife
and help reduce depredation problems with agriculture producers.
Investing in the Future Through
Conservation Education
The Wild Elk Federation provides conservation education
programs and initiatives that increase the level of public understanding,
involvement and support of wildlife management and habitat conservation.
