WEF Elk Trailers Make Room for Bison

The Wild Elk Federation was proud to partnership with Parks Canada (Elk
Island National Park and Waterton National Park) in the relocation of
two bison bulls.
In the early morning hours of February 3, 2010 after a couple of transportation
scheduling delays, WEF volunteers Jim Gibson and Ross Clarke of the
Leduc and Greater Edmonton area Chapter loaded up two bison from Elk
Island Park and headed south. Ahead of them was a long ride to the release
site located in Waterton National Park in the most southern area of
Alberta.

Late in the afternoon of February 3rd the two bison were successfully
released into their new home. These two animals were relocated to Waterton
National Park to replace two other aging resident bison.

This is the first time the WEF trailer has been used to relocate any
type of wildlife other than elk.
The WEF trailer stands ready for the use by any wildlife conservation
group that may require its use. Requests for such use should be directed
to the WEF office at (780) 980-1600.
The Wild Elk Federation hopes to be involved with its 3rd elk relocation
project in the spring of 2011. Discussion is ongoing at this time.
